This week
Heritage Open Days start today and run until Sunday 20 September: across Norfolk, buildings that are usually closed or rarely seen open their doors for free, with around 230 events in the county’s programme. Some need booking, so look early.
This weekend, Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September, the Sandringham Game and Country Fair has falconry, gun dog and sheepdog displays and a food area, about fifty minutes west of the cottage.
It’s the last week of the Cromer Pier Show, which closes on Saturday 19 September.
The season
The mornings are cooler, with mist in the valley at first light, and the evenings are drawing in.

- 18 to 20 September: Holt and Sheringham go back to the 1940s.
