Quiet country lanes and a coast with sea views make North Norfolk good cycling country. The Norfolk Coast Cycleway follows this stretch of coast to Cromer, and there are traffic-free trails through the park and woods at Holkham, Holt Country Park and Sheringham Park.
Good to know
- Holkham has a cycle hire centre by the car park in the park, with routes through the park and woods.
- Visit North Norfolk lists cycle hire across the area, including in Wells and Sheringham.
- Sheringham Park allows cycling on three of its woodland trails.
- The main roads, the A148 and the coast road, are busy in summer: the lanes are far nicer.
Our pick
Holkham
Holkham Hall
A grand Palladian house in a vast deer park, with walks, cycling, a walled garden and seasonal events.
Upper Sheringham
Sheringham Park
National Trust woodland and parkland with viewing towers looking out to the coast. Glorious when the rhododendrons and azaleas flower in late spring, and for autumn colour.
Holt
Holt Country Park
Nearly 100 acres of woodland on the edge of Holt, with a visitor centre, a waymarked arts trail and a cycle route.
The coast
Norfolk Coast Cycleway
A signed route of about 59 miles from King’s Lynn to Great Yarmouth. Along this stretch it follows National Cycle Network route 1 and regional route 30 to Cromer, then the Quiet Lanes of north-east Norfolk.
