This week
It’s carnival season. Wells Carnival starts today and runs until Sunday 9 August, with traditional seaside games, sandcastle competitions, a raft race, live music and the carnival parade on Saturday 8 August. Wells is about half an hour from the cottage.
Sheringham Carnival starts on Sunday 2 August and runs for the week, to Sunday 9 August, with sandcastle competitions and a duck race on the boating lake. Sheringham is twenty minutes away, or take the Poppy Line from Holt behind steam.
The season
The combines are out and the harvest is in full swing, so expect the odd tractor and trailer on the lanes. The heather on Kelling Heath, ten minutes away, is starting to flower; by the middle of August the heath is purple.
